Hi guys,

I wanted to find out who here has used brokers to exercise employee stock options. Could you share what institution you used and maybe contact info and also what you paid per option.

I would think a reasonable rate would be between 3 and 6 cents per optoin.

thanks

Employee options are almost always exercised through the issuing company, not through brokers. Brokers only deal with exchange traded options.

You have the option to pay the company directly to exercise the options but then you have market risk while you wait a few days to receive the share certificate.

Through a broker you can basically have a cashless exercise where they short sell the stock once they confirm with the Company that you have the options and they replace the sale with the shares once the certs are recieved.

I can't see many brokerages wanting to get involved in employee compensation, but good luck.

I used TD full service broker to excercise company options years ago. I can not recall how expensive it was to do it. I think it was probably $100-$200? I had no idea how to do it myself so it was worth it to me. It was one of the few stocks I made money on. :-)
